Today we’d like to introduce you to Joy Fay.
Joy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today. I graduated from college in 1992 with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I worked in many different early childhood settings and eventually became the director of a Boston based child-care center. Soon thereafter I left my position to help my sister raise her 3 children. It was during this time that I was introduced to boot camp style workouts and ran my first Boston marathon in 2001. Running that first marathon was a pivotal time in both my personal and professional life. It gave me the courage to see what else I was capable of. I continued on to run 15 consecutive Boston Marathons. It was around 2005 that I began teaching boot camp classes and further developed my interest in health, nutrition and exercise becoming a certified group exercise instructor. I am still running these boot camp workouts today! Melrose Boot Camp provides creative, full-body workouts made up of body-weight resistance exercises such as squats, lunges, and push-ups. We also use simple equipment such as resistance bands, jump ropes, agility ladders and kettle bells. I was inspired by the success of my first endeavor, Melrose Boot Camp to open a physical location with yoga and enrichment programs for all ages. Joy Yoga on Green St. in Melrose opened in February of 2014. We offer yoga, meditation, creative arts and a variety of exercise classes. I am also in a position to support the dreams of others: local artists, therapist, yoga instructors and many more who need a place to share their gifts. When I hear someone describe Joy Yoga as a community center, it makes me very happy. It has certainly been a journey and I am grateful for every bit of it! Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way? It has been incredibly hard work getting where I am today. It has taken huge amounts of time and determination. Throughout it all gratitude has gotten me through the tough spots. I never lose sight of how fortunate I am to do what I love and to do something I view as so very important. I started really small, was patient, volunteered my heart out offering services free or at discount for a long time. I took the time to get to know the community and have been open to my business evolving in response to its needs. I’m doing it. I truly believe the universe doesn’t give you a dream without also giving you the ability to make it a reality. I believe I’m proof of that Please tell us about Joy Healthy Life. Joy Healthy Life offers a variety of health and wellness services and experiences for all ages. Yoga, exercise classes, meditation, art, birthday parties, sports team training… you name it. I am most proud of how active we are in the local school system. It is our youth programs that sets us apart from other studios and gyms. Serving families is our specialty. If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently? All of the obstacles I have encountered have made me stronger and helped me grow as a business owner and as a person. I wouldn’t change a thing. Pricing:
